Today was a very special day for us, because we finally got to try something we have wanted for a long time: our very own drone! Adding this extra dimension to our videos has always been a dream. But as anyone who has looked into drones knows, there are many restrictions, rules, and confusing regulations—especially when it comes to weight and where you can fly.
That is why the DJI Neo, weighing under 250 grams, felt like the perfect choice. It’s lightweight, simple to use, and thanks to its small size, it also carries fewer risks of breaking if something goes wrong. We decided to go for the Fly More Combo, because when it comes to batteries and accessories, more is always better when you are out in the field.
For the first flight we drove into the beautiful Barranco de Fataga, a canyon full of dramatic cliffs and natural beauty. Our chosen spot was at Cuevas de Ventanas, a fascinating place where the old cave openings look like windows cut into the rocks. It felt like the perfect place to let the drone stretch its wings for the first time.
We started carefully with the stand-alone follow option. Just pressing the button and letting the drone follow us on its own already felt futuristic. Seeing ourselves from above, walking in the silence of the barranco, was an amazing experience. It was strange to suddenly be the subject of our own little movie, moving naturally while the drone captured the bigger picture.
After that it was time to get serious—flying with the controller. At first this felt very strange, almost like learning to ride a bike again. The movements were sensitive, and it took a bit of time to understand the perspective from the sky. But step by step, move by move, it became easier. Of course, there was also a little bump and a small crash (something every new drone pilot will probably experience). Luckily, the DJI Neo proved to be strong and forgiving, and soon we were flying with more confidence.
Looking down into the canyon, the winding road, and the impressive rock walls from above gave us a completely new way of seeing Gran Canaria. We both felt so happy that we had taken this step. The drone really is an extra pair of eyes, showing angles that we could never capture before.
By the end of the day, we were tired but excited. The first adventure with our DJI Neo Fly More Combo was a success, and it left us looking forward to many more. From now on, our videos will not only show what we see from the ground, but also the hidden beauty from the sky.
