Every Randonautica adventure starts with a bit of mystery and a lot of curiosity. But as tradition demands, it first begins with coffee. Today, Saturday, we decided to sip that coffee in the heart of one of the most picturesque mountain villages in Gran Canaria — Fataga.
Fataga is not just a place on the map. It's a small, beautiful world of its own. Nestled in a lush valley with towering palm trees and ancient stone houses, this village seems like something from a forgotten time. The air feels fresher here, the pace of life slower, and every corner tells a story. It was the perfect starting point for our 4th Randonautica walk.
Though the walk was short — just a bit over 500 meters — the experience was dense with beauty. We’ve walked in Fataga before, from both directions, but this time the path Randonautica chose for us required a bit more walking. Still, every extra step was a joy. Winding through cobbled lanes and around whitewashed houses framed with bougainvillea, we couldn’t help but stop often — to look, to breathe, and to simply take it all in.
What struck us the most today was the atmosphere. The environment here feels almost cinematic — quiet, still, and rich in detail. The sound of birds, the occasional rustle of palm leaves in the breeze, and the distant hum of village life created a sense of peace that’s hard to put into words. It was the kind of place that naturally makes you slow down, unplug, and look around.
As we wandered, something else caught our attention — the number of holiday rentals tucked discreetly into the village. Some hidden behind ancient stone walls, others with terraces offering breathtaking views over the valley. Fataga seems to have become a quiet hideaway for those seeking an exclusive and peaceful escape. It’s no surprise. With its charming alleys, small artisan shops, and intimate restaurants, it has all the ingredients for a perfect relaxing getaway.
We realized that Fataga, while preserving its traditional Canarian character, also embraces its role as a serene holiday destination. There's something incredibly special about that balance — between the old and the new, between untouched nature and tasteful hospitality. It makes you want to stay a little longer, maybe even return for a weekend of doing nothing at all — just soaking in the calm.
So yes, this was one of our shorter Randonautica walks, but it didn’t feel short. The richness of the surroundings, the surprises along the way, and the quiet energy of Fataga made it a memorable one. It reminded us that sometimes, you don’t have to walk far to discover something extraordinary.
And so we wrap up our 4th Randonautica adventure — full of impressions, photos, and new ideas for future visits. Fataga, you have our hearts. Until next time.
